BCNDP convention passed resolution calling on Saving Lives in Gaza and Israel

B.C. NDP convention concluded on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023 at the Victoria Conference Centre in Victoria, B.C.

New Democrats from all corners of BC gathered at the biennial Convention with a theme to ‘Building a Better Future, Together’.

Among other resolutions that was passed was a resolution calling for Saving Lives in Gaza and Israel.

The Emergency resolution was forwarded by Khalid Chouhan who is the President of the newly formed BCNDP Riding of Surrey Serpentine River EDA.

The E.1) resolution called for Saving Lives in Gaza and Israel

THE BC NDP WILL call on the government of Canada to call for an immediate ceasefire

THE BC NDP WILL condemn the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, caused by both Hamas terrorist attacks and Israeli military strikes

THE BC NDP WILL call for the immediate release of all hostages taken by Hamas on October 7

THE BC NDP WILL call on the federal government to advocate for urgent access for humanitanan aid in Gaza 

HE BC NDP WILL call on the federal government to welcome displaced refugees from the region to Canada

THE BC NDP WILL call on the provincial government to welcome displaced refugees from the region to British Columbia

THE BC NDP WILL stand in solidarity with all Israelis and Palestinians who want to live free of fear oppression and violence

The resolution passed with full support of the member delegates present. 

Brittny Anderson MLA for Nelson-Creston stated on her Twitter formerly X account;

“This resolution passed with overwhelming support at the BCNDP Convention. I am so grateful to the speakers and was proud to stand with them in solidarity. 

#CeasefireNOW”

The resolution comes just at a time when many elected officials from local governments have called for a ceasefire from BC. It is one that was clearly needed at this moment in time. 

Earlier on Premier David Eby stated; “British Columbians are feeling shaken and heartbroken by the war in the Middle East. Human life is sacred. Peace is essential. We have seen a deeply troubling increase in acts of hate & racism in BC. We have to be there for each other and stand together against all forms of hate.
